php-auth-http software package provides HTTP authentication, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install php-auth-http
php-auth-http is installed in your system.
Make ensure the php-auth-http package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep php-auth-http *
You will get with php-auth-http package name, version, architecture and description in a table
